Open Settings, tap Daily reminder, then tap the time row to pick a new time. The reminder follows your phone's local timezone and adjusts automatically across daylight saving changes. If you turn the reminder off and back on, your previously chosen time is remembered.
The library is drawn from public-domain works across many traditions and centuries: classical philosophy, Eastern thought, English poetry, nineteenth-century novels, and more. Lines are chosen for the meaning they carry on their own, regardless of the writer's tradition.
Quotes you have saved by tapping the heart appear in the Favourites screen, on the Saved tab. The Recently seen tab shows reflections you have revealed in the last few sessions but have not saved. Beyond that, past quotes do not stay in a history view. In the Retelling is designed around the moment of reading rather than a catalogue.
Yes. Open Settings, tap Reveal mode, and choose Always revealed. The quote will appear fully on every daily screen from then on. You can switch back to Hidden by default at any time.
No. Every quote, every screen, and every other asset ships inside the app. In the Retelling works in aeroplane mode and never makes a network request during normal use.
No. There are no analytics, no third-party trackers, no remote API calls, and no account system. Your category preferences, saved reflections, reminder settings, and reading history live only on your device. The Privacy Notice covers this in full.
Every quote in the app is drawn from a work that has passed into the public domain. The same rule extends to writers and translators; only works that have passed out of copyright can be quoted freely.
We include only quotes that we reasonably believe are in the public domain. If you spot an error, please send us the quote and the issue using the contact details below.
